BRIEF

Preparation of an overall Management Plan comprising Conservation, Business & Repair plans for a ruined Victorian Palace, parklands and formal gardens - one of English Heritage’s largest and most important properties – to support a two phase submission to the Heritage Lottery Fund for capital grant aid.

NATURE OF WORK

Survey of current condition of parkland, recreational usage & demand; documentary research into history and archaeology of the site; preparation of overall Management Plan.

DESIGN PROPOSALS

Following HLF approval to grant aid Phase 1 design of proposals to restore parkland, woodland, fencing, gates paths & ornamental walks; provision of new visitor centre & 200 space car park; restoration of North Frontage to Court including balustrading; preparation of documentation for specialist contract tenders & supervision of works on site.

PROJECT COSTS

Phase 1, total value £1.5m, was approved in 1997 and works completed in 1999; Phase 2, value £1m, was submitted to HLF in July 1999
